Description

Yamazaki Peated Malt Spanish Oak is part of The Kogei Collection, through which Suntory pays tribute to kogei, traditional Japanese craftsmanship. For this edition, Suntory has partnered with Chiso, a Kyoto kimono house founded in 1555, whose box and label design depicts the three rivers that converge near the distillery, with gold detailing.

Master Blender Shinji Fukuyo has combined two unusual elements in Yamazaki: peated malt and maturation in Spanish oak casks that previously held oloroso sherry. The European wood imparts a deeper colour with reddish highlights, as well as a rich abundance of dried fruit and spice.

The result is a creamy and complex single malt with notes of dark mocha, raisins and almonds, a smooth and silky smokiness, and a long finish of toasted cocoa and spices. A limited-edition collector’s whisky for lovers of Japanese whisky.
