D.O. Ribeira Sacra

Ribeira Sacra could be defined as one of the best kept secrets of inland Galicia. This destination is made up of a group of twenty-six municipalities in the south of the province of Lugo and the north of the province of Ourense, with the river course of the Miño, Sil, Cabe and Bibei rivers as a unifying element.

The Ribeira Sacra is one of the best-kept natural and historical jewels of the interior of Galicia, Spain, famous for its dizzying river canyons, the largest concentration of Romanesque churches in Europe and its heroic viticulture. It extends mainly through the south of the province of Lugo and the north of Ourense, articulated around the deep valleys of the Sil and Miño rivers.

The terrain is so steep (with slopes of up to 85%) that the winegrowers pick the grapes by hand on impossible terraces. The red wine varietyMencía and white ones like theGodello are exceptional. You can taste them at local wineries like Regina Viarum.

Medieval localities such as Castro Caldelas (with its imposing castle) orMonforte de Lemos, considered the administrative capital of the region.
