D.O.P. Bullas
D.O.P. Bullas is located in the northwest of the Región de Murcia. It is an area with a long winemaking tradition centred on Monastrell, the variety that defines most of its wines.
An important feature of Bullas is the altitude of its vineyards. Plantings lie roughly between 400 and 900 metres, with some vineyards in particularly high areas.
The climate is Mediterranean with continental influence, with hot, dry summers and cold winters. The temperature differences between day and night favour a more gradual ripening of the grapes.
Limestone soils, poor in organic matter and well drained predominate, conditions especially suited to Monastrell.
Monastrell reds are the stars. They usually show ripe black and red fruit, Mediterranean and spicy notes and considerable structure. Rosés, traditionally important in the area, are also made, as well as white wines.
In the highest vineyards, Monastrell can offer a particularly interesting profile, combining concentration, freshness and Mediterranean character.
