Tasting notes

Appearance

It is shown with a deep and intense red color with violet nuances, which anticipate its power and youth.

Nose

The wine is complex, seductive and full of nuances. Intense aromas of ripe plums, blackberries and dark cherry unfold, accompanied by layers of sweet spices, cocoa, cloves, smoke and fine leather. Notes of tobacco, humid earth and cedar also emerge, contributed by its aging in French and American oak barrels for 18 months.

Palate

The Kanonkop Pinotage 2021 is structured, broad and powerful, but at the same time balanced and polished. The tannins are firm but well integrated, with a velvety texture that supports the fruit weight and complexity of the wine. Its fresh acidity gives it balance and aging potential, while the finish is deep, long and spicy, with an elegance that grows with each sip.

Description

Kanonkop Pinotage 2021 is one of South Africa's most prestigious wines, made exclusively with Pinotage grapes from 40-60 year old vines planted in decomposed granite soils on the slopes of Simonsberg Stellenbosch. This vintage expresses the intense and complex character that has made this wine famous worldwide.

The winemaking process is traditional, with fermentation in open vats and manual treading, followed by 18 months of aging in 75 percent new French oak barrels, which adds depth and elegance without obscuring the varietal personality.
