Description

The 2021 vintage of El Anejón transmits the uniqueness of the plot from which it comes. The terraces of Anejón rise above the valley, covered by the forest that protects them, in a terroir with unique characteristics. In its production we find the three varieties from the plot: 95% Tinto Fino, 3% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Merlot. 9.43 hectares of vineyard with austere soils with a marked slope resolved with terraces. Made only from exceptional vintages

The terraces of the El Anejón plot welcome the Carraovejas valley. Its uneven relief turns it into a natural amphitheater facing the privileged views of the Peñafiel castle. It is one of the first terraced plots in the Ribera del Duero and one of the few examples of terraced vineyards in the entire designation of origin. The soil of its stands has a very compact and austere loam-limestone texture. The presence of the three classic varieties of the estate, Tinto Fino with a small percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, give a differential character to this 9.43 hectare plot. Its orientation, mostly west, but with great exposure thanks to the slope, marks a unique environment.

After exhaustive monitoring during the ripening cycle and after a first selection in the vineyard, the harvest is carried out manually in small boxes. The bunches go through a cold chamber and selection table where each grape is carefully chosen. A double selection is carried out: after reviewing all the clusters and destemming, the entry of each berry is also controlled manually. Fermentation in small French oak vats seeks to enhance the uniqueness of the terroir. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentations take place spontaneously. The passage of the wine into new 600-liter extra-fine grain French oak barrels is done by gravity. For greater protection, the wine contains sulfites. The 2020 vintage of El Anejón was bottled in the spring of 2022.
