Description

Portia Crianza 2023 is one of the most representative wines from Bodegas Portia, an emblematic project of the Faustino Group in the heart of the Ribera del Duero DO. The winery, designed by the prestigious architecture firm Foster & Partners — the same designers of the London Gherkin and Hong Kong Airport — is the only winery in the world designed by this international firm. A three-pointed star-shaped structure built with concrete, wood, steel, and glass in Gumiel de Izán (Burgos), it has become an icon of global wine architecture.

Made from 100% Tempranillo (Tinto Fino) grapes sourced from a selection of four of the winery's own estates located in the municipalities of Roa, Gumiel de Mercado, Sotillo de la Ribera, and Villanueva de Gumiel, at an altitude of between 800 and 850 meters above predominantly sandy soils with limestone outcrops. Yields are kept controlled at 5,000 kg per hectare, ensuring exceptional aromatic concentration and fruit quality.

The winemaking is precise and contemporary: destemming and crushing of the grapes, skin maceration, and controlled fermentation at 26°C in truncated conical stainless steel tanks that promote delicate and precise extraction. Subsequently, the wine undergoes 10 months of aging in French oak barrels and 3 months in American oak, meeting the minimum of 12 months in barrel required by the designation. The combination of both types of oak provides complexity, elegance, and that toasted profile that identifies the great crianza wines of Ribera del Duero.

With a bright cherry-red color with purple highlights. On the nose, very intense and elegant: aromas of ripe forest fruits, vanilla, and light toasted notes reminiscent of chocolate and coffee. On the palate, it is powerful, well-structured, and balanced, with elegant and polished tannins, good acidity that provides freshness, and a long finish with sweet and toasted notes. A reliable, expressive crianza with excellent value for money.

Serving temperature: 15-17°C. Ideal for grilled or roasted red meats, mushrooms, rice dishes with meat, cod, tuna, aged cheeses, and Iberian cured meats.
