Description

Bagús 2022 is the most exclusive and personal wine from Bodegas López Cristóbal, founded in 1994 in Roa de Duero (Burgos). Its name, which means "good" in Indonesian, anticipates what is found in the glass: a singular estate red, crafted with care and patience, that represents the ultimate expression of the winery's philosophy.

Made with 100% Tinta del País grapes sourced exclusively from the Pago de Manvirgo, a unique vineyard with 85-year-old vines located at an altitude of 850 meters on calcareous soils. The age of the vines, the poor soils, and the extreme altitude naturally limit yields and maximize the expression of the fruit. A plot that for years sold its grapes to other wineries, until the López Cristóbal family decided to make this unique wine themselves.

The winemaking is artisanal and meticulous: hand-harvested in fruit crates followed by sorting table selection. Fermentation at 28°C with 21 days of maceration. Aging takes place for 14 months in new oak barrels, 80% French and 20% American, followed by 18 months of bottle aging before release. An extremely limited production of just 5,000 to 8,000 bottles per vintage.

The 2022 vintage has been rated as "Very Good" by the Ribera del Duero Regulatory Council. In color, deep ruby with violet notes. On the nose, complex and elegant, yet powerful: aromas of ripe fruit, spices, and chocolate, with a magnificent combination of primary and tertiary aromas. On the palate, it is savory and balanced, with great concentration and body, polished tannins, and an impressive complexity of aromas through retronasal perception. A long and refined finish that lingers over time.

Serving temperature: 16-18°C. Decant before serving. Ideal for game, grilled red meats, roast lamb, aged cheeses with great personality, and special occasions.
