Description

Mauro VS 2023 — Vendimia Seleccionada — is the most exclusive and ambitious wine from Bodegas Mauro, the winery founded in 1980 by Mariano García in Tudela de Duero (Valladolid), the same winemaker who was the technical director of Vega Sicilia for 30 years. The VS is only produced in the best vintages, and the 2023, fresh, fruity and with fine tannins, has proven to be one of the winery's finest in the last decade.

Made with 100% Tempranillo grapes from a meticulous selection of two unique plots located in the municipalities of Tudela de Duero and Traspinedo, with vines over 80 years old grown organically with extremely low yields. These century-old vineyards, on limestone and clay-limestone soils at an altitude of 760 meters, produce small bunches of enormous concentration, the perfect raw material for one of Spain's great age-worthy wines.

The winemaking is absolutely artisanal: after a meticulous manual selection in the winery, the grapes are transferred by gravity to 12,000 kg tanks, separating the batches by estate and production area. Alcoholic fermentation with native yeasts followed by maceration for 2 to 3 weeks. The aging lasts for 26 months in French oak barrels of different ages, followed by a minimum rest of 6 to 12 months in the bottle before release. No clarification or filtration. A process of maximum precision at the service of the fruit and terroir.

Of an impenetrable purple color with bluish reflections. On the nose, exuberant and complex: aromas of ripe black fruit — blackberry, cassis, plum — accompanied by notes of graphite, cocoa, black licorice, aromatic herbs and a very characteristic mineral background from the limestone soils of Tudela de Duero. On the palate it is fleshy, structured and of exceptional freshness for its concentration, with fine and flexible tannins that envelop the palate, a generous volume and a very long, mineral and spicy finish that does not leave. A wine with enormous aging potential.

Aging potential until 2040 and beyond. Decant at least 1 hour before serving. Serving temperature: 17°C. Ideal for big game, grilled red meats, roast lamb, hearty stews and aged cheeses with great personality.
