Thecarignan, carignan ormazuela is a Spanish red grape that has been planted mainly in the Western Mediterranean, although it is also found today in the rest of the world.
It is more productive than other red varieties and has a high tannin content, which provides significant acidity and makes it ideal for aging, as well as to complement and enrich.
Its versatility in crossing makes it a key variety to reinforce other wines by coupage, for example, as a complement to Tempranillo for long-aging wines.
- Appearance: large berries, with veracious epidermis, irregular color evolution and black-blue color with a lot of pruine.
- Aroma: astringent and with bitter and herbaceous aromas.
- Nuances/Reflections: when production is high and the grapes are not yet ripe enough, the tannins are astringent; It is best suited to young wines with carbonic maceration. But, in less fertile areas, with good soils, old vines and limited production, quality wines are obtained.
